Chirst Church Graveyard

The church graveyard is known for the prominent persons buried here, especially four Governors of Maryland. Additionally, the two oldest known gravestones ever to be found in Dorchester County have been relocated here and placed in the church building. The Church was recently the recipient of nearly an acre of land adjacent to the church property, which will provide sufficient grave sites for many years to come.

Our historic graveyard is a tourist attraction in the local area, and the Graveyard Committee has successfully recorded much of the genealogy of individuals buried in the graveyard. These records make up a significant part of our archival documents. An article is published monthly in REVELATIONS about people at rest in the graveyard in an attempt to keep our history alive in the hearts of the congregation.

The Vestry of Christ Church is the governing body of the Christ Church graveyard and is responsible for the stewardship and administration of the same. The day to day operation of the graveyard is carried out under the direction of the Graveyard Committee. This active committee is charged with the responsibility of maintaining the graveyard plots, which includes locations and ownership of burial lots, vacancies, and current burials, as well as maintaining records of the lots in perpetual care. The Graveyard Committee provides for the care and appearance of the Parish graveyard, coordinates plans for burials with funeral directors, maintains records and family plot information.
